In 2012, various activities at ETH Zurich were centered around the theme "World Food System":
Shortly before the start of the symbolic conference "Rio+20", ETH Zurich invited to a critical dialogue on the focus topic "water". Under the title "The Value of Water" numerous representatives from science, economy and the non-governmental sector discussed the global challenges with regards to the distribution and use of water. What will we eat tomorrow? How will we eat tomorrow? How does our global food economy work? And how can we influence it in a positive way? Among others, those questions were dealt with in the framework of the three-week long ETH Sustainability Summer School in 2012. Together with leading experts, 30 students from international universities tried to find and implement approaches to solve the challenge of a sustainable food security. the inauguration of the competence center "World Food System Center"
ETH Zurich establishes a forum for the scientific and social exchange on
"World Food". The competence center works towards the vision of "a
healthy world through sustainable food systems? through strategic partnerships
that bring together key stakeholders from science, politics, private sector,
international organizations and NGOs to create and disseminate new knowledge

The 2012 spring edition of the popular scientific outreach program "Treffpunkt Science City" was dedicated to the theme "World Food System". For several weeks, ETH Zurich opened its doors inviting the wider public to foster a broad dialogue between science and society. Within the framework of popular lectures, exhibitions and other activities, the theme "World Food System" was discussed from numerous perspectives. More information on "Treffpunkt Science City"
