Jointly organized by The Sustainability Forum Zürich and ETH Sustainability, "Sustainability Dialogue with Leaders and Pioneers" is one of the most prestigious lecture series in Switzerland. Since its establishment in 2004, numerous outstanding international personalities have shared their sustainability-related success stories and experiences. The debates sensitize a wider public with sustainability-related topics through the exchange with top representatives from areas of business, science, and politics.
05.12.2013 - Socially and ecologically sustainable procurement can help preserving limited environmental goods while assuring a socially-acceptable production. But under what conditions? And what is the benefit of voluntary commitments? These questions were discussed within the framework of the event series "Sustainability Dialogue with Leaders and Pioneers". The event was opened by ETH vice president for Finances and Controlling, Dr. Robert Perich, who gave insights on how procurement is managed at ETH Zurich. In turn, Dr. Sibyl Anwander Phan-huy (Head of Sustainability and Economic Policy, Coop) and Jürg von Niederhäusern (Head Social Compliance & Standards, Federation of Migros Cooperatives) gave a presentation about procurement practices of their respective retail businesses.
Moderated by Thomas Streiff, CEO The Sustainability Forum Zürich, the presentations were discussed and scrutinized by representatives of science and private economy: Hans-Peter Egler (SECO), Tobias Jung (Inrate), Professor Rolf Kappel (Professor for the Problems of Developing Countries, ETH Zurich) and Peter Lutz (SV Group).
The event was jointly organized by The Sustainability Forum Zürich and ETH Sustainability. It took place on December 5, 2012 in ETH Zurich's main building.
