The first ETH Talk took place in November 2009 and was dedicated to the theme "Climate?. As key note speaker, ETH Zurich welcomed Federal Councillor Moritz Leuenberger.
In the first part of the Climate Talk, four ETH professors – Ulrike Lohmann, Andreas Fischlin, Konstantinos Boulouchos, and Volker Hoffmann – presented the latest findings in the area of climate modeling, on the consequences for ecosystems, as well as on the technical and business options for mitigating climate change and its effects.
The second part centered on the dialogue with decision-makers. Federal Councillor and Head of the Federal Department of Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications Moritz Leuenberger kicked off the second part with a presentation on Swiss climate politics. In what followed, three CEOs – Urs Berger (Die Mobiliar), Hans-Peter Fricker (WWF Schweiz), and Franziska A. Tschudi (WICOR Holding AG) – as well as National Council member Bastien Girod discussed Switzerland's challenges and options for action with regard to climate change.
