Competence Center Environment and Sustainability

The ETH Zurich is a main hub of the Competence Center Environment and Sustainability (CCES). CCES leads the cooperation between both Swiss technical universities, ETH Zurich and ETH Lausanne, as well as the four research institutes within the ETH domain; the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (EAWAG), the Swiss Institute for Forestry, Snow and Landscape Research (WSL), the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), and the Swiss Federal Material Science & Technology Research Institute (EMPA).

The CCES specifically leads the interdisciplinary cooperation and puts special value on early recognition of potential environmental problems.

The CCES contributes substantially to national and international research and discussion agendas in the areas of climate and environmental change, food production, sustainable agriculture and nature conservation. The goal is the demonstration of sustainable development activities in each main topic area as well as their coordination in national and political arenas. The Portfolio of the CCES consists currently of 17 research projects and two research platforms with around 600 associated scientists and engineers.
